Cuprophan is a membrane consisting of natural cellulose. Using cotton linters, it is manufactured using the the cuproammonium process. Special technological methods permit the production of very thin membranes which are, however, very puncture proof and of high tenacity and elasticity.

Cuprophan is a membrane consisting of natural cellulose. Using cotton linters, it is manufactured using the the cuproammonium process. Special technological methods permit the production of very thin membranes which are, however, very puncture proof and of high tenacity and elasticity. Bundled together these membranes are comonly used in kidney dialysis units.

The very narrow bore means that the membranes offer a high surface area to volume ratio and can be used in smaller areas.
